In a recent development, First Lady Jill Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by her spokesperson. Fortunately, she is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. Following her positive test result, President Joe Biden also underwent a COVID-19 test, which yielded negative results. The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, announced that President Biden will continue regular testing and will be closely monitored for any potential symptoms.
For the time being, Jill Biden will remain at the couple’s residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, according to Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director. This situation has led to adjustments in her plans to commence the new school year at Northern Virginia Community College, where she serves as an English and writing instructor. Given her condition, arrangements are being made with school officials to secure substitute teachers for her classes.
It’s worth noting that the first lady had recently accompanied her husband on a visit to Florida to assess the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia. Subsequently, President Biden spent part of the Labor Day weekend at their Delaware beach house before attending a union event in Philadelphia and returning to the White House on Monday.
Both the Bidens had previously contracted COVID-19 last summer.
